El Monte Police

The members of the El Monte Police Department are committed to improving the quality of life in their city.  To assist in their mission they needed a motorcycle that offered the greatest level of officer protection and the BMW’s had protection features not available on competitors models.

After testing different models and brands, they decided on the BMW 1200 RT-Ps, which have been part of their fleet since 2016. The selection was based on the idea that BMW is a motorcycle built for police work, not a bike adapted to be used for police work.

In their words, “the rider comfort of the BMW far exceeds other manufacturers. Features such as adjustable height windshield, heated grips and seat, dual batteries, auxiliary 12-volt charger, easy-to-view (even at high speeds) speedometer and gauges and probably our favorite feature that is an option are our forward-facing BMW LED driving lights mounted to the front crash bars.”

After using most other brands of police motorcycles they chose BMW based primarily on vehicle control features and comfort.  The BMW is a purpose-built, all-in-one police package, not a motorcycle that is pieced together based on a retail model.
