New BMW motorcycles for Berlin
It was a memorable day for the Berlin police as officers received their motorcycles for official use at Tempelhof Field, not far from the Berlin police headquarters at the Platz der Luftbrücke. In mid-May, Helmut Schramm, Director of the BMW Group Plants Berlin, handed over 35 BMW motorcycles to Chief of Police Barbara Slowik and Berlin Interior Senator Andreas Geisel.
Slowik was pleased: “The procurement of BMW motorcycles is, for the Berlin police, another step towards updating its fleet and an important investment in the safety of police officers and the city.”

The 35 BMW R 1250 RT-P’s were individually adapted to the needs of the Berlin police. The various special components include special digital radio technology that is easy to operate without changing the position of the hand on the handlebar. In order to ensure that police officers are noticed quickly in street traffic, these motorcycles have additional LED headlights and are conspicuously marked with highly reflective strips. In addition, external loudspeakers make it possible to directly address individual road users while riding, with the volume matching the respective speed.
The motorcycles are fully manufactured and customized at the BMW Group Plant Berlin. Plant Manager Helmut Schramm: “We are proud to once again supply the Berlin police with vehicles. After all, there is a long tradition of cooperation between the Berlin police and BMW Motorrad.” Most recently, the capital city's motorcycle squadron received a total of 20 vehicles in 2012.
